Marie Van Ness was born and raised in Upstate New York. She moved to Washington DC in 1966 and has been living in Arlington for the past 32 years. She is a licensed social worker and retired from the federal government where she worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She has always been involved in volunteer work particularly in her community. About three years ago, Marie became interested in the Ignatian Volunteer Corps (IVC) through her parish. IVC is a program that places retirees in service centers, as well as provides opportunity for spiritual growth. Marie feels very privileged to be a part of the Bonder & Amanda Johnson Community Development Corporation, working with Bri, Cicely and others involved with the organization. When volunteering at BAJCDC, you can find Ms. Marie helping with food distribution, helping find resources for clients, organizing seminars for clients, and much more. When Marie is not volunteering, she likes to listen to live jazz, cook, work in her garden and spend time with family and friends. One of her favorite memories is the fun everyone had at her 75th birthday party.
